"Teenage kicks,
so hard to beat"
”A decade and a half of youth culture and alternative music in the backwaters of Lower Bavaria is coming to an end. What was for years the Friday-night living room for the children of good taste is now being flattened by BMW / Baywa – honestly, who cares? – to stack sheet metal or cement there. (...) What remains is grief and broken glass, like at closing time on a Friday at the Achter, when the broom comes out to the sound of the sirtaki. You smoke your last half-crumpled cigarette, knowing that once again it is far too late and that you shouldn't cling to the evening that has slipped away. But this time it's different: it's just like so many times before, except that there will never be a next time. When the lights come on tonight, the final curtain falls on Strich 8, the cocoon of our youth, the taste of real life in our dreary small-town existence. However much you resist, and however little it helps, you can't help turning around and, with one eye laughing and one eye crying, taking one last look inside this little gem, just before it is torn down.”
